US-Chicago HafenCity wins international prize
HafenCity Hamburg wins "ULI Global Awards for Excellence 2013".
The Urban Land Institute (ULI) has selected twelve developments as winners in the 35th annual ULI Global Awards for Excellence competition, widely recognized as the land use industry’s most prestigious recognition program. Finalists and winners are celebrated at awards ceremonies held in conjunction with the ULI Fall Meeting in Chicago.
The program - which honors real estate projects that achieve a high standard of excellence in design, construction, economics, planning and management - is the centerpiece of ULI’s efforts to identify and promote best practices in all types of real estate development.
The HafenCity project, the largest in Europe in recent times, was initiated in 1999 following a competition which was won by the team of ASTOC and Kees Christiaanse. HafenCity is being developed from west to east and from north to south. The area currently under construction, including any completed sections, now extends 1.1 km in length, from the Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall at the tip of Dalmannkai in the west to the Spiegel group building at Ericusspitze. In breadth, HafenCity begins at the Speicherstadt and runs down to the banks of the Elbe.Urban Land Institute
